2008 Summer Enrichment Program Events and Camps The GSCS Summer Enrichment Program is a dynamic learning and life skills experience that provides neighborhood children and youth with opportunities for personal growth, success, friendship, and fun.  In just 10 weeks, participants develop life skills that help them become more self-motivated, more responsible, and to think creatively.  This summer, we sent 140 youth to their first experience of overnight camping in Texas Hill Country.  Most of them, having lived in the inner city, had never even seen a star before spending a night at camp.  Each year we are amazed how the children are transformed by this profound experience.   Please click on the images below to enlarge. Image:  In June, thirty-two neighborhood children and youth participated in the annual GSCS Summer Tennis Camp.  Once again, a huge Thank You goes out to the Alamo Heights Tennis Team for volunteering their time to teach GSCS youth how to play tennis.  Click on photos to enlarge. The 2008 Basketball Camp was a huge success!  Basketball Camp served an average of 191 participants every day for two weeks!  Camp ended with a series of 3-on-3 tournaments including an exciting Staff vs. Youth showdown!  Trophies and ribbons were presented at the Awards Ceremony which completed the two-week camp.  A special thanks goes out to all our wonderful coaches and the volunteers who helped make this summer's program so much fun!  Please click on photos to enlarge.
